Birthday speculation - Hyrule_Demigod20 - The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms [Archive of Our Own] (2024)

You sat in front of the cake, surrounded by friends. You couldn't really do much right now, but the gesture was genuine.

"Happy Birthday!" Percy all but screamed in your ear.

"Jeez, Perce, I'm gonna go deaf." You joked.

"At least you can sign." Jason snorted.

"Oh hush, don't be sour you're not needed for the actual mission." Piper retorted.

--

You came back to the present as Wars bumped your shoulder. He was watching you.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hey, Captain." The nickname was what everyone called him, you had observed.

"Nearing the Ranch." Ah. Right. Legend liked to grumble about 'dumb Hylia and her stupid fucking plans', which just made you laugh. But Time said he and his wife, Malon, lived there. So, you were excited. So was everyone, at that. "Malon's nice. You'll like her." He nodded to Time's back. "He's been writing to her, don't know about what. Might've sent word ahead. Just so you know."

"What, that I'm a girl?" You snarked to the handsome captain. He gave you a serious look.

"Yes." You felt bad for being snarky, but you were tired, and it was your birthday. You wanted nothing more than to sit and relax.

"Sorry." You spoke. "I'm just tired. Don't tell Hyrule, but the most I've gone without sleep- or much sleep- was three days. It's been a while." He nodded.

"No, I got it. But there's something else, isn't there?" Damn. He was good at reading people.

"I- Yeah. I guess it's been a while since I celebrated my birthday alone." You watched the Captain mouth the words before realization hit. His eyes widened.

"Happy birthday."

"Thank you."

"How old?"

"Eighteen- Captain, I'm not having a child."You teased. He turned red.

"I- No, that's not-" You laughed at his reaction. He really was handsome- you cut off those thoughts before you zoned out again.

"I'm kidding. Relax, I'm not serious. It was a joke."

"I- right." He smiled again, and you wondered if he wastryingto get you off track. Then Wind and Spirit ran up.

"The Ranch! Come on!" Before you could reply, Wind had grabbed your hand and was dragging you up. You threw a wave to the Captain over your shoulder, jogging to keep up with Wind as a house came into view. It was a one-story house surrounded by a fence and had a barn to the side. You heard cows inside.

"Ms. Malon!" Wind yelled. "We're back!" A woman ran out of the house over to Time. She had red hair and green eyes. She was pretty. You waited while the boys got hugs and hellos, smiling. You saw Wars nod in your direction, saying something to Malon. You didn't really care what he was saying, seeing as a calico cat nudged your legs. You immediately scooped it up and pet it.

"That's Saria." Time's voice made you jump.

"You need a bell." You told Time, and he chuckled.

"Come meet Malon." You followed Time over to his wife, quietly hugging Saria.

"You're my favorite cat." You muttered, and she purred.

"She likes you." Time had come back with Malon.

"Well, I like her." You replied, sticking out your hand. "I'm (Y/N)."

"Malon. Time talks about you." She shook your hand as you raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah? good things?"

"Last he said was something about you being as bad as the boys." You snorted at that. So, she knew about the train?

"Yeah well, it was needed."

"Giving us heart attacks was needed?" Wars asked. You felt your face heat up.

"Well, no. That was just something that happened." You were following the boys inside, talking. "I mean, if Four knew what he had to do he could."

"Why not any of the others?" Time snorted.

"They probably wouldn't fit." That was met with protests, and you were sure you heard a 'that's fair tho.' from Four. You walked toward the room Malon directed you to as Wars called out behind you.

"Happy birthday, by the way." You winced, closing the door on the ensuing chaos.

--

After dinner, you sat against the door, snapping your fingers. The snap when you were yelling at Wars had magic. You could feel it. Nothing so far. You started to wonder if it was a subconscious thing- Percy had talked about his subconscious experience and Leo still had a few- until you remembered the anger you had felt. So maybe emotional? The spark just wasnt going off though, so you switched to the healing Hyrule did. It seemed straightforward enough. You still remembered intention and directionfrom when Lou Ellen had tried to teach you, so you focused on healing a small cut on your arm you had from gods know where.

Actually, War might know.

You would have to ask if you ever saw him again.

Anyway, focusing healed it, but only when your other hand was resting over it, you found.

Useful, that.

--

In the morning, you found a gift on your bedside table with a note.

My son doesn't need this for now. But gods and demigods alike can use music for magic.

With Love,

Your uncle

Inside was a bone white ocarina. And the only reason you knew what the hell it was was the fact that Time played one constantly. You placed it back into its case, placing it in your bag to mess with when you knew the right songs to play. You stepped out to see everyone in the living room.

"Morn." You grabbed a orange from the fruit bowl.

"Hey." Twi said.

"Why'd you hide your birthday?" Wind asked, surprisingly mature for a thirteen-year-old.

"I forgot until the day of. And honestly? Spending the day with y'all was great. I was orphaned for a few years before I started living with relatives, so I used to spend them alone."

"Oh my god, she's turning into Twi." Wild stared at you when you snorted.

"No, I know. It's great."

"The horror." Wild said.

You snorted as conversation continued, allowing your mind to wander to magic. You were determined to learn how to do the spark, and how to hide your healing. You had to learn songs, but all in due time.

After all, nothing stopped determined demigods.
